Rarotonga Places of Interest
When visiting the island of Rarotonga, travellers can enjoy sightseeing trips as well as leisurely days relaxing on the beaches.
Cross-Island Hike
Many travellers consider Rarotonga to be one of the most beautiful islands in the South Pacific. It has a perimeter of blue lagoon and coral sand beaches, then the land rises to a craggy central highlands area reflecting its volcanic origins. With precipitous peaks, sharp ridges and intertwining valleys covered with verdant rainforest, the landscapes are beautiful from all directions. For those wishing to experience the wonderful interior, there is a cross-island hiking trail linking the Avatiu valley with the southern side of the island. The beautiful walk goes by Te Rua Manga, a famous needle-shaped rock that can be seen from some coastal areas and from the air.
Takitumu Conservation area
This area was established to protect Rarotonga's native plants and birds, such as the Rarotonga Flycatcher, Kakerori.
